The Round Rolls Difference
What results from Superior Longleaf’s extensive management practices and commitment to quality is premium longleaf pinestraw at harvest time. And that’s when you begin to see another Superior Longleaf Farms difference. When the pinestraw is ready, our automated balers go to work creating consistent, high-quality round rolls, roughly equal to 2 ½ to 3 of the typical square bale. Why automated round baling?
First of all, our management practices create exceptionally clean pine straw – there’s no need to eyeball it for impurities, unlike square bales gathered by hand.
Second, automation delivers consistent size and weight of pinestraw rolls – and that means value. Square bales assembled by hand simply can’t say that.
Third, round rolls are less tightly packed and matted compared to square bales. This means faster spread times, as measured in square footage covered per man hour. Just cut or unwrap the netting and the pinestraw springs to life for easy installation. Also, the netting helps to repel water; round rolls stay drier, hold their color and last longer than square bales.
Fourth, square bales are hand produced in the woods by laborers who are paid by the bale. Their incentive is to produce as many bales per day as possible – and earn more money! Plus, they rarely meet the customer or see the product in use. The bottom line? QUANTITY is way more important to them than QUALITY!
